A Cleaner’s Christmas

Winter in Cochrane has its own rhythm, and as cleaners, we get to see it up close. The moment Christmas trees start going up — usually earlier than anyone wants to admit — everything shifts. Homes feel warmer, the air smells like baking and pine, and suddenly our workdays are filled with a different kind of buzz. December has a way of making even the busiest days feel a little magical.
The first sign of Christmas is always the trees. Big ones, skinny ones, themed ones, kid-decorated masterpieces — every family does it differently, and every tree tells a little story.
One thing we’ve learned? Don’t touch the tree.
Even a tiny bump somehow turns into glitter… everywhere. We’ve learned our lesson. 😂
Kitchens take on their own personality this time of year too. Some mornings smell like shortbread cooling on the counter, other days it’s soup simmering away, and sometimes it’s… well, a recipe someone tried and abandoned halfway through. We’ve seen it all. Every home has its own holiday scent, and we notice it the second we walk through the door. There’s something really nice about cleaning a kitchen that’s clearly been lived in — it feels like we’re helping reset things so baking round two (or three) can begin.
And we can’t talk about December without mentioning the treats. Our clients spoil us this month. Cookies, snack mixes, little holiday bags tied with ribbon — we never expect any of it, but it genuinely means a lot. These small gestures brighten long days and remind us what kind of community we live in. The generosity in this town is something special.
Entryways always tell the truth about winter. Salt, slush, gravel — all the stuff that somehow sticks to boots no matter how many times you stomp them outside. Floors work overtime in Cochrane this time of year, and there’s something oddly satisfying about clearing everything away and making the space feel fresh again. It’s like a winter reset button.
Living rooms change too. Blankets come out, pillows multiply, fireplaces get used more often, and pets take full advantage of the cozy vibe. We see cats soaking up the warmest sunbeam they can find and dogs curled up like they’ve claimed the whole couch. Cleaning these spaces feels like preparing the stage for everything December brings — movie nights, wrapping marathons, slow evenings in comfy clothes. It’s simple, but it matters.
And the pets — they’re part of the charm. The sweaters, the excited tail wags, the curious inspections of our cleaning supplies… pets absolutely know when the season shifts. We’ve stepped over our fair share of furry friends who think we’re there just to visit them.
December is busy, chaotic, sparkly, noisy, warm, and everything in between. But it’s also one of those times when we’re reminded why our work feels meaningful. We get to see homes at their coziest and most lived-in. We get to watch families prepare for the holidays, enjoy their traditions, and create the little moments that make this time of year special.
It’s not all glamorous, but it’s real — and we’re grateful to be part of it.
Glitter and all. ✨
